Facts about gluten

  •  Gluten is a protein only found in wheat, rye and barley. The products can also be based on corn starch or rice starch.
  • Gluten free products are based on wheat starch from which the gluten has been removed.
  • Being allergic to gluten you easily risk having too little fiber in your diet, as you can’t consume bread made from wheat, rye or barley.
  • If you suffer from gluten intolerance, eating gluten will damage your intestines and disrupt their ability to absorb critical nutrients from your diet, such as vitamins and iron.
  • It is important that you are not sloppy with your gluten free diet but take great care. Even a small amount of gluten can damage your intestinal tract.
  • Gluten intolerance will not “pass” or disappear over time. If you suffer from intolerance you must maintain a gluten free diet for life.
